Why did Ethereum upgrade to 'dencun'?

Ethereum, the second-biggest blockchain after Bitcoin, activated its much-anticipated "Dencun" upgrade, a move to spur growth on so-called layer-2 networks like Arbitrum and Polygon, by reducing their data fees.

What is a dencun hard fork?

The Dencun hard fork incorporates nine different Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). The upgrade’s name combines the Cancun upgrade of Ethereum’s execution layer and the Deneb upgrade on the consensus layer.
